Day 16. Well, the garden is doing OK. I get the feeling the plants are not very happy - the give off this "dude, you should have planted us a month ago" sort of vibe. But what is an adventure without some risk? (In fact, my motto is:
It's not an adventure unless something goes wrong.) And wouldn't you know it, something has already gone wrong (Adventure? Check!). The lettuce and spinach seeds never came up. Not a single one. I think they are too old (about two years too old). So last week, Heidi bought some nice baby lettuces from the Farmer's Market, and I replanted the spinach seeds. The cabbages are growing, and the pea seeds have all reached 3-5 inches - not bad for day 16. Pretty soon I will have to start training them to climb the fence.
Other notes: I check the weather every day, and cover them with the tarp if it's going to get below 40 degF. I also purchased two sheets of clear, corrugated plastic roofing to place on top for rain and snow - despite the "ribcage" structure, rainwater was still pooling and causing the tarp to sag. They were expensive though...
Total price to date: $40.
Total GSE to date: $0.
